Dark Knight of the soul

Holy smokes Batman! So Christian Bale has gone and gotten himself arrested now for an alleged assault on his mother and sister.

This couldn't be worse timing, as the the European premiere of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight had barely finished in London's Leceister Square when Scotland Yard detectives were already knocking on the actor's door.

A statement from Bale's lawyers, the London-based firm Schillings, said: "Christian Bale attended a London police station, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. Mr Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr Bale."

Even if Bale is innocent, this untimely arrest can't be good for his image. Fortunately the police did not allow Bale to suffer the indignity of being seized in front of thousands of screaming fans. That would surely have been an embarrassment of camp crusader 1960s Batman proportions. No. Make that worse.
